The figure photographed in front of the work is Evelyn Williams. Born in 1929, she was sent with her sister to A. S. Neil's famous free school Summerhill at the age of three. She left at 14 and went to St Martin's School of Art and then to The Royal College where she was offered a 4th year after wining the Henriques Drawing Prize.
